Photo Manipulation and Ethics

A.  Some main points that I read about were how newspapers would completely change the photo without the person in it knowing.  Also sometimes people will be edited in or out of a photo to satisfy the newspaper company.  There has also been instances where someones head is photoshopped onto someone else's body.

B.  Newspapers such as the Washington Post and New York Times have very strict guidelines that they have to follow.  Their philosophy limits them from changing photos too much.

C.  I think some acceptable things that you could do without using unethical manipulation are correcting red eyes, cropping the photo, or adding a filter.  All of these things can make the photo look better but don't completely change it or make it look like a whole new photo.

D.
In my opinion, this photo was the most unethical.  When I first looked at it I actually thought that it was two different people.  The photoshop completely changed what the woman looks like.  This photo sends the untrue message that you have to look a certain way to be pretty.  They should have just left the photo the way it was.

E.
I think this photo is the least unethical.  All it did was squish the photo together so that it would fit on the page.  Even though it may have made it slightly more compelling to look at, there aren't any huge and extremely impactful changes to the photo.  It only changes the background a little bit and doesn't hugely distort the photo.
