Great Black & White Photographers: Part 2

Ansel Adams

Ansel Easton Adams was an American landscape photographer.  He was born on February 20, 1902 in San Fransisco, CA.  He died on April 22, 1984 in Monterey, CA at the age of 82.  When Adams was four, an aftershock of an earthquake threw him to the ground, breaking his nose and forever leaving him with his unique look.  In 1907, the Adam's family fortune collapsed in the financial panic and his mother was always complaining about it.  However, Ansel's father was very supportive of him and homeschooled him when he had trouble in school.  At age 12, Ansel taught himself to play piano and read music but later gave it up for photography.  Ansel's love for nature began at the Golden Gate Bridge and grew from there.  There are nearly four dozen books that Adams has written or contributed to.
